Pavel Hamet: building the impossible

Charles University, Prague, 1966. On a regular basis, Pavel Hamet spent many nights in the laboratory, chasing his passion in research. As a 23-year-old medical student, Pavel Hamet devoted all his energy to his studies and published his first three scientific articles. Having had surgery for appendicitis at the age of 12 and deeply marked by the care he received and the hospital environment, Pavel had planned to become a doctor. To his surprise, he discovered a passion for research.

During this conference he will discuss the molecular mechanisms and structural determinants explaining the functional selectivity of GPCR as well as the development of tools allowing the selection or design of biased ligands with therapeutic potential.

Dr. Johanne Martel-Pelletier, a full professor of medicine at the Université de Montréal, the co-director and co-founder of the Osteoarthritis Research Unit at the CRCHUM and the co-holder of the Université de Montréal’s Chair in Osteoarthritis, will receive an honour of the highest order, the designation of “Master” from the American College of Rheumatology, during an annual convention which will take place from November 4 – 8, 2017, in San Francisco, California (U.S.A.).

David Allard and Samuel Rodriguez-Qizilbash Receive the 2017 La Vie en Rose Scholarship

Two students from the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM) have received the la Vie en Rose breast cancer research scholarship. David Allard, a doctoral student under the direction of John Stagg has received a $23,000 scholarship and Samuel Rodriguez-Qizilbash, a student of Rami Younan, has received the $16,000 master’s scholarship.

On November 3rd, 2017, the CRCHUM Conferences invites Jean-Frédéric Colombel, Professor of Medecine, Director of the Suzanne and Leonard Feinstein Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre and The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust Endowed Director for IBD, Department of Gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Hospital. His talk will focus on new treatment paradigms in IBD, such as “treat to target”, “tight control" including therapeutic drug monitoring, and early intervention.
