Jonathan Richard, a postdoctoral researcher at the CRCHUM has become the first person affiliated with a Canadian institution to receive the prestigious Mathilde Krim Fellowship in Basic Biomedical Research from the American organization amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research.

Dr. Simon Turcotte has been named holder of the Roger-Des-Groseillers Chair in HPB Surgical Oncology at the Université de Montréal. He succeeds Dr. Réal Lapointe, head of the CHUM’s HPB surgery department, who successfully held this position for the last ten years.

Anne-Marie Mes-Masson, the head of the Cancer Research Theme at the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM) and a researcher there, and the scientific director of the Institut du cancer de Montréal, has been chosen to receive the 2017 Michel-Sarrazin Award. Since 1977, the Club de Recherches Cliniques du Québec (CRCQ) has given this award to an established scientist every year, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the advancement of biomedical research.

His talk will focus on the recent studies that shed light on a new mechanism of interference of the innate immune response by these flaviviruses, namely via a major alteration in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondrial morphology.

This innovative technology is being successfully tested by a few patients in a study at the University of Montreal Hospital Centre (CHUM). Dr. David Roberge, a radiation oncologist and researcher at the CHUM, is conducting a clinical study in order to evaluate the impact of this device on extending the life of patients with neurological cancer.
